Winchester (based on PR dates) to start with began using the superposed “WP” Winchester Definitive evidence mark in May perhaps 1905, and continued to apply it to most models from that point on. In my surveys, I have verified that date for the Product 1885, Model 1894, and Model 1897, And that i think that Michael has confirmed the identical over the Design 1892. Winchester suitable from the start marked the two the barrel as well as receiver.
So I picture if a customer necessary a thing performed they would of accommodated them. Again when an organization’s name and reputation Firearm transfers essentially intended one thing.
Simply just stated, AWESOME info! For the middle fire models, the dates I arrived up with have been based upon the PR dates with the serial figures discovered, and contemplating The standard lag time in between serialization and accomplished assembly, the July 17th, 1905 date tends to make complete great sense.

At what issue was the “Circle VP” for “Viewed Proved” stamp placed on the underside from the barrel–subsequent the heavy load screening, the “VP” currently being applied after the visual inspection on the barrel? The “VP” is uncovered on each individual 1892 and 1894 barrel I have witnessed from the start to the end of production, bridging the date for the appearance of your “WP”. Then why the addition of the “WP”—I acknowledge I am no history buff, just curious regarding the reasoning for the “WP”.
